The Yemini Lab (www.yeminilab.org) at UMass Chan Medical School studies how neural activity and behavior are reprogrammed during development and evolution. We recently won a Klingenstein-Simons Fellowship in Neuroscience and a Hypothesis Fund Award.

The Yemini Lab is located in the Neurobiology Department at UMass Chan Medical School, which is ranked among the top medical schools worldwide, and was named by Boston Globe as one of the best places to work in 2022 and 2023. The university is home to a diverse and international populace. We offer substantial benefits and pay competitively. Postdocs in the Yemini Lab receive mentoring for future academic and industry positions. They learn an extensive collection of cutting-edge techniques that make them competitive for these positions including: whole-brain activity imaging using confocal/light-sheet microscopes, genetic manipulation (e.g., methods to color barcode cell types, applying chemo/opto genetics to control neurobehavioral circuits, and approaches for precise spatiotemporal control over gene expression), computer-vision for neural detection/identification and behavioral analysis, and state-of-theart AI/ML methods.

We are searching for a postdoc that will join and lead an academic-industry collaboration to work on cell type-specific labeling of neurons in the mammalian retina and brain, extending our popular NeuroPAL method (Yemini et al, Cell 2021 – see figure below). This project will leverage state-of-the-art 3D spatial transcriptomic microscopy to study tissue from humans and mice. The position is funded for at least 3 years. Postdocs with wet-lab experience in mice (electroporation, AAVs, ex vivo preps, and similar protocols) are preferred, but not required. In addition to the Yemini Lab, the postdoc will work closely with Professor Christina Baers group thus leveraging the expertise of the microscopy core, and further have the ability to forge collaborations with other well-known groups such as the adjacent lab of Dori Schafer.
