A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Milena Bogunovic, M.D., Ph.D. in the Department of Pathology at UMass Chan Medical School (Worcester, MA).  Please current research underway in the lab at: https://146.189.216.212/bogunoviclab/

UMass Chan Medical School (https://www.umassmed.edu), a progressive academic and research center and hospital is conveniently located in Worcester, MA, near Boston metropolitan area and picturesque New England countryside. The laboratory is placed in a contemporary research building with an open lab floor plan to promote interactions and collaborations with trainees in other labs. The Department of Pathology and other departments under the institutional Microbiology and Immunology Graduate Program have a strong focus on fundamental aspects of innate and adaptive immunity, host-pathogen interactions and immunological disorders. Together, they provide an outstanding training environment.

Our research is focused on the role of mononuclear phagocytes (dendritic cells and macrophages) in mucosal immunology and neuroimmune interactions in the gastrointestinal tract to understand the pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease. All available projects are supported by strong preliminary data with high probability of success. The research techniques used in the lab include multicolor flow cytometry and FACS, fluorescent confocal and two-photon microscopy combined with bulk and single cell transcriptomics to reconstruct the dynamics and anatomy of immune interactions in the intestinal tissue of mice and humans.  Please see recent publicaitons from the lab at: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/myncbi/1-_tjBF6I7hku/bibliography/public/.

Responsibilities and Qualifications:

A terminal degree (MD, PhD, or MD/PhD) and 0-2 years of laboratory post-graduate experience is required.  Strong expertise in multicolor flow cytometry; and/or strong expertise in tissue imaging and two-photon microscopy is required.  In addition, experience working with mice is necessary.  A record of productive research including publications in major peer-reviewed journals is required.  Previous experience in the fields of mononuclear phagocyte biology, mucosal immunology and/or infectious immunology is preferred but not required.  A background in neurobiology is a big plus.
