GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION: 

Reporting to the Grant Contracted Chief of Dental Services, provides direct care to the extent authorized by licensure and professional competence and per the expectations of the study. The Mother's Action Project for Child Health (MAPCH) is a 5-year research study on child health/oral health recently funded by the National Institute for Dental/Cranial Research. The project uses a Common Risk Factor Approach—addressing both pediatric caries and obesity risk by addressing common feeding and child/care behaviors that put children at risk for both conditions. The focus of the project is New York Citys Bangladeshi community.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide pediatric dental assessments in the homes of research participants.
  • In conjunction with clinical treatment the dental hygienist uses educational theory and methods to instruct and guide patients towards optimal oral health.
  • Serves as the facility resource with regard to dental care and provides training for staff as needed.
  • Performs other specific duties as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Must posses a current New York Dental Hygienist license (Location of the Research project)
